I was doing some typical sales legwork today and came across a site, Modern Domainer I was going to pitch. I immediately notice the prominence of their “Domainer Apprentice” contest, specifically the latest post “Domainer Apprentice Contest Heats Up”. About one second later I realize I know the older caucasian guy from somewhere.
And, it hits me
I used that exact model while designing a variety of senior healthcare product brochures at a previous job. I hop over to one of my favorite stock sites and find good ol’ “Derek Turner” (yeah, that’s a finger quote)
Also, here’s Jose. I didn’t bother looking for everyone else.
Faking Reality
I’m well aware much of reality TV ends up being contrived and molded to meet ratings; that reality TV isn’t so real. But, do we really need to fake website content too? They obviously put a lot of work into this, creating Facebook and MySpace profiles. I’m wagering it may have been cheaper just to run a real contest and have real content.
Note: Since this blog post (and some emails *grin*), it appears the “Domainer Apprentice” feature has been pulled entirely off the site.
